Pilates can be done on a one-to-one basis where a personal programme is designed for you by Kelly. This is very much dependent on your aims and goals; your medical background and is also based on a postural analysis which is all discussed on the initial consultation. One to one sessions can be done in the comfort of your own home or in my own personal studio.

One-to-one gives the more personal touch and is particularly beneficial for those suffering from any serious back/joint problems; rehabilitation from injury or pregnant clients where special supervision would be of benefit. One-to-one is recommended for those suffering from serious back problems or pregnant clients in their third trimester of pregnancy before entering into a group matwork class so they are familiar with the technique.

It may also be of benefit to carry out one-to-one if recommended to do so by a chiropractor/physiotherapist/osteopath. Kelly often receives referrals from local chiropractors and physiotherapists.

A programme carried out in the K M Pilates studio is an hour in length and incorporates both matwork and reformer.

The Reformer
The reformer is a unique piece of apparatus that was designed by Joseph Pilates.

It was one of his original inventions where he used springs from old fashioned hospital beds to rehabilitate patients who were injured in the first world war.

Short Spinal
It is a bedlike platform with a sliding carriage attached to a number of springs that offers gentle resistance.

The individual using the machine controls the movement of the carriage either by placing their feet on the foot bar or placing their hands or feet in straps that are attached to pulley cords. Exercises can be performed in sitting, standing, kneeling and lying on the carriage.

Hundred
The reformer is not about using maximum resistance but using the right amount of tension for the working muscle without straining to perform the move.

The less resistance used the more challenging it is for the core muscles.
